“Atmosphere is top-notch (the constant too-loud rap is personally great for focusing on my training), and it’s a good place for kids to learn self defense.”
“This old school gym offers boxing at the advanced through beginner levels with excellent coaching and friendly staff, always.”
“Sparring was scary at first, but I felt supported the whole time and walked away feeling stronger and more confident.”
“The boxing coaches are all helpful and from what I’ve experienced, they tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.”
“I started one-on-one coaching with Alan knowing nothing about boxing, and he broke everything down so well.”
“I’ve been training here for a little while now, and the gym has everything you need — heavy bags, a full ring, a weight room, and plenty of space to practice your own drills.”

From the reviews
This gym is unlike anything I've ever experienced before. You walk in and it's like your home, one of the guys. Clean, intense and not a second of your time is wasted as the guys push you through your workout. Hands down the best gym I have ever gone to. Work is done here, results are seen here.
This boxing gym is awesome! The group classes really make you work up a sweat while learning how to throw a proper punch. First class is free and then you can choose a plan that benefits you the most. The guys at the front desk are very welcoming and the trainers are attentive and help you if you never boxed before.
Thought about joining, emailed them and they invited me in for a trial session; signed up right after that and have been doing at least 3-days a week for the past 2 weeks now! Classes at different times so there’s usually one at a convenient time for whatever you got going on.
This gym is amazing! I just started here and honestly best decision I made. The classes are challenging which gives me something to work on. The coaches are super informative and do not hesitate to answer any questions you have. Plus they run classes every hour so it’s almost impossible to miss!!!
New to kickboxing? Start at Sweatbox Brooklyn
Sweatbox Brooklyn comes up as a beginner-friendly gym, going by their listing and members’ reviews. If you've never thrown a punch or a kick, that's exactly who a good beginners class is for. A few things worth knowing before your first week. First, you don't need to be fit or coordinated to start — you get in shape by training, not before it, and coaches scale every drill to you. Second, you won't be thrown into hard sparring — reputable gyms build the basics (stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads and bags) first, and any contact eases in gradually under a coach's control. Third, all fitness levels really are welcome — ask about a dedicated beginners or fundamentals class time so your first session is alongside others who are also starting out. Most gyms are happy to let you watch or try a class first, so reach out before you commit.
Your first kickboxing class at Sweatbox Brooklyn
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
