Kickboxing programs, and where to train each
"Kickboxing class" isn't one thing. One gym down the street runs a high-energy cardio kickboxing class where nobody lays a glove on you; another has kids' classes after school, a lunchtime women's class, muay thai on Friday nights, a bootcamp at dawn, and one-on-one private lessons in between. The program decides who the class is for, how hard you go, and whether you leave having burned 700 calories on the bag or drilled a real fight technique — so it's the first thing worth sorting out before you walk in. Each program below explains what it actually is and who it tends to suit, then links to gyms nationwide that run it, with maps and state-by-state lists. Brand new? Start with kickboxing for beginners, then find a gym with a free trial or intro class to try one.
🧒 Kids Kickboxing
Structured, coach-led classes for children — confidence, focus, discipline and fitness in a safe, encouraging, light-contact setting (its anti-bully reputation is a big draw).
🌱 Beginners
The on-ramp for people who have never trained — stance, basic punches and kicks at a welcoming pace, where no experience or fitness is assumed.
🔥 Cardio Kickboxing
The big fitness class — nonstop punches and kicks on bags and pads, a sweaty full-body cardio workout that burns serious calories and needs zero experience.
🥊 Boxing
Hands-only striking — footwork, head movement and sharp punching — a popular way to sharpen your hands and conditioning.
👤 Private Lessons
One-on-one coaching with an instructor — the fastest way to sharpen technique, build confidence, or train around a schedule that group classes don't fit.
🏆 Competition Team
Training for members who want to compete in amateur kickboxing, K-1 or muay thai — extra sharpening and coaching toward the ring.
🤜 Sparring
Controlled, optional partner sparring for members ready to test what they've drilled — kept light and supervised, and never a requirement.
🦵 Muay Thai
The "art of eight limbs" — punches, kicks, knees, elbows and clinch — the striking style many kickboxing gyms teach alongside their classes.
⚡ Kickboxing Bootcamp
High-intensity kickboxing conditioning — intervals of bag work, bodyweight drills and combos for people chasing results and a hard sweat.
✨ Teens Kickboxing
Classes built for teenagers — fitness, focus and a constructive outlet, bridging kids' and adult training.
💪 Women's Kickboxing
Women's classes and women-friendly rooms — a welcoming, non-intimidating way into fitness, confidence and self-defense, whatever your starting point.
Not sure which class to start with?
If you've never trained before, a class labelled beginner or a cardio kickboxing class is the kind way in — technique and fitness first, at a pace that expects newcomers. Here for weight loss and a hard sweat? Cardio kickboxing and bootcamp classes are built for exactly that. Want a room that feels less intimidating? Look for women's classes. Enrolling a child, or training as a teen? See kids and teen classes. Curious about the real striking arts behind it? Muay thai and boxing classes teach the craft, sparring is where you test it (always optional), and a competition team is the path toward the ring. Want to learn fast or train privately? Private lessons are one-on-one with a coach. Whatever you pick, all levels are welcome — you don't need to be fit to start, and it's always fine to rest when you need to.
