From the reviews
I have been training martial arts for about 5 years now with 2 years being at another gym that is more well known throughout the country as a credible gym to improve your martial arts and self defense.
This gym is also referred to as Underground MMA. It is run by Jannsen Tariga, who was Frank Shamrock’s head instructor for over 10 years before Frank moved to LA and Jannsen started his own gym. The gym, instruction, and people are amazing.
Great group of guys with a team mentality. Class sizes are small, so you get plenty of individual attention. The coaches are highly knowledgeable, and each class builds on the last, so you learn practical chains and combos instead of just random techniques.
Underground MMA/ Shamrock MMA is the BESSSSTT MMA GYM I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. I LOVE THE ALL WOMENS CLASS <3 I got so fit, strong, and I learned to do things I never thought I could do.
New to kickboxing? Start at Shamrock MMA
Shamrock MMA comes up as a beginner-friendly gym — noted on their own site. If you've never thrown a punch or a kick, that's exactly who a good beginners class is for. A few things worth knowing before your first week. First, you don't need to be fit or coordinated to start — you get in shape by training, not before it, and coaches scale every drill to you. Second, you won't be thrown into hard sparring — reputable gyms build the basics (stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads and bags) first, and any contact eases in gradually under a coach's control. Third, all fitness levels really are welcome — ask about a dedicated beginners or fundamentals class time so your first session is alongside others who are also starting out. Most gyms are happy to let you watch or try a class first, so reach out before you commit.
Your first kickboxing class at Shamrock MMA
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
