I wish that I could give this place more stars but 5 is all that Google will allow. I can honestly say that Premier Martial Arts Powder Springs has changed my family's lives in countless, great ways! Incredible instructors and an inviting atmosphere and culture.
Alice McCleary and her family provide thorough and highly-qualified martial arts training. My kids have attended her classes for a couple years, and they not only learn skills with karate and weapons, but they have also grown in their confidence and character.
Love this place! I wish I would've found it for my son sooner. It's like a big family. My son has come out of his shell since joining, and watching him thrive so much in less than a year has been wonderful. I can't thank the instructors enough. They are so great with kids and just awesome people all around.
New to kickboxing? Start at Premier Martial Arts
Premier Martial Arts comes up as a beginner-friendly gym — noted on their own site. If you've never thrown a punch or a kick, that's exactly who a good beginners class is for. A few things worth knowing before your first week. First, you don't need to be fit or coordinated to start — you get in shape by training, not before it, and coaches scale every drill to you. Second, you won't be thrown into hard sparring — reputable gyms build the basics (stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads and bags) first, and any contact eases in gradually under a coach's control. Third, all fitness levels really are welcome — ask about a dedicated beginners or fundamentals class time so your first session is alongside others who are also starting out. Most gyms are happy to let you watch or try a class first, so reach out before you commit.
Your first kickboxing class at Premier Martial Arts
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
