From the reviews
This is a great gym. I've been coming here for several months after trying some other gyms on the island. I couldn't be happier. The Center has the right equipment for a good workout plus it has friendly staff. I feel personally welcomed each time I come. I have never loved a gym experience - always felt out of place.
If you're serious about fitness, I definitely recommend speaking with Scott or any of the trainers. Extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to helping you achieve your goals. The facility is amazing for a small space and the best part is the heavy bag area!!!!!
Very friendly staff, as well as Scott (the owner) of the gym. Not only very friendly, but too, very explanatory when showing each individual the gym. Anyone looking for an area to do some boxing or kickboxing, this is really the place; really the only place on the island to get some exercise/workout in.
Fantastic staff and fantastic facility! I was in Hilton Head for a weeks vacation and the resort gym was PATHETIC. I jumped online to find a local gym and was impressed with the reviews I saw online for XP Fitness.
New to kickboxing? Start at XP Fitness
XP Fitness comes up as a beginner-friendly gym, going by their listing and members’ reviews. If you've never thrown a punch or a kick, that's exactly who a good beginners class is for. A few things worth knowing before your first week. First, you don't need to be fit or coordinated to start — you get in shape by training, not before it, and coaches scale every drill to you. Second, you won't be thrown into hard sparring — reputable gyms build the basics (stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads and bags) first, and any contact eases in gradually under a coach's control. Third, all fitness levels really are welcome — ask about a dedicated beginners or fundamentals class time so your first session is alongside others who are also starting out. Most gyms are happy to let you watch or try a class first, so reach out before you commit.
Your first kickboxing class at XP Fitness
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
