From the reviews
I have been an active runner for almost two years, averaging 20-30 miles a week. Last year, I did 4 half marathons. Even with all that running and weights, I couldn't seem to get my extra large muffin top (thanks to giving birth to my two kids) to go down. My running partner recommended Sovereign Martial Arts.
It started with my son, now my whole family trains here! The school has a great family atmosphere and there are a number of other families that train at the school as well that love it just as much as we do. As an adult I get to train with good friends and my family.
Damien, who is 3.5 years old, goes 2-4 days a week, and I must say, the staff is sooo wonderful with him!!! I was a little hesitant to sign him up, being that he’s a wild child and has a tendency of doing his own thing, but Heather and ALL of the instructors are so patient and encouraging!
When my daughter and I joined last August, never did we realize that this would be what we needed individually and together. My daughter fought me about joining and for a couple of months just gave me a ton of grief. Then she discovered, thanks to Sensei Gabby, a talent in sparring. The rest is history.
Your first kickboxing class at Sovereign Worldwide
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
