From the reviews
Solid classes taught by a professional. Rudi Ott has been a long term Bay Area Martial Arts instructor and consistently grows strong students. I got a chance to check out his bag class and advanced pad class. The students were smart and savvy. The work outs were intense.
This place is awesome. I am still struggling to complete the entire class there but i am positive that one day i will reach that level. The trainers are great and the people are always ready to help. Just wish there was a little better air circulation.
This gym has a lot of classes with different options. What I love most is the schedules in the afternoon, where Kids, youths & adult classes are done at the same time.
I would give this a five star but this is only a four star rating because a lot of the times there is no receptionist. Also one particular receptionist that gets on my nerves. He isnt respectful and is VERY loud and obnoxious. This would have been a two star if it wasn’t for the amazing coaches and environment there.
New to kickboxing? Start at Smash Gyms Milpitas
Smash Gyms Milpitas comes up as a beginner-friendly gym — noted on their own site. If you've never thrown a punch or a kick, that's exactly who a good beginners class is for. A few things worth knowing before your first week. First, you don't need to be fit or coordinated to start — you get in shape by training, not before it, and coaches scale every drill to you. Second, you won't be thrown into hard sparring — reputable gyms build the basics (stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads and bags) first, and any contact eases in gradually under a coach's control. Third, all fitness levels really are welcome — ask about a dedicated beginners or fundamentals class time so your first session is alongside others who are also starting out. Most gyms are happy to let you watch or try a class first, so reach out before you commit.
Your first kickboxing class at Smash Gyms Milpitas
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
