From the reviews
I've been to many gyms over the years, but I have to say that this one is by far the best. The coaches are incredibly nice and helpful, always willing to offer advice or spot you during a tough set. But what really sets this gym apart is how effective it is.
SixPax changed my life. Seriously. For all of my adult life, I've struggled with consistent exercise. I'd try a weightlifting plan for a couple months. Enjoy the early gains. But then life would get in the way—severe illness, crazy work week, vacation—and then I'd be back to my old ways: not exercising at all.
I’ve been passing by SIXPAX for many years, as I live 15 minutes away, and I was always curious about what it was all about. I saw people hitting tires with hammers, running around the building, and lifting weights, and I always noticed a trainer guiding them.
This is absolutely the best gym I've ever been to, despite not having any bells and whistles. It has a charming old school muscle head/garage gym vibe without taking itself too seriously. It seems expensive but it's honestly the reason I haven't melted into a couch potato over the last year.
Your first kickboxing class at SixPax Gym
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
