From the reviews
I enrolled my 5 year old daughter into classes in April, after my husband left for a 6 month deployment. When he left, she immediately started having behavioral issues, lashing out at me, her teaches, other adults, and being antisocial at school, which is so NOT her usual personality.
My wife and kids signed up first, they love it. I joined a few weeks ago and it has been a blast. We love the instructors who treat kids and adults alike with respect and discipline. The sessions are intense, but well worth the work. The kids have become more focused and have seen an uptick in their grades.
My son started with Mr. Roderick and Karate America almost two years ago and they have completely changed his life. When he entered the program, he was failing school, didn't care, had no self esteem and was on medication for depression and many other issues.
My granddaughter wanted to try kickboxing, so I signed her up at Karate America. To her surprise, I signed up as well. We signed up for both Kickboxing and Self defense, both excellent values. What a great way to have fun and get in shape with your kid! The people who practice there are all encouraging and kind.
Your first kickboxing class at Martial Arts, Fitness Kickboxing & Krav Maga on Blanding Boulevard
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
