From the reviews
Love this place. Trained here for many years with Sensei Jeremy, Ron and Chuck. If you’re looking for less of a sporty 9-5 school and more competition heavy stuff this is your go to. I trust these guys a lot, they are professionals, stand up guys, and trained killers.
Great gym, great place to train! Coaching is excellent and supportive. They provide individual attention to each student to make sure everyone learns properly. AMMA offers a wide range of classes from kids karate, to adult kickboxing,Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and much more. I cannot say enough good things about the staff.
Been coming here for a few months now, best price downriver for jits, karate and kickboxing. Jeremy and Jesse are great instructors.
Great place to get a great workout and have fun while learning very useful technique. Highly Recommend!!
New to kickboxing? Start at AMMA Fitness
AMMA Fitness comes up as a beginner-friendly gym — noted on their own site. If you've never thrown a punch or a kick, that's exactly who a good beginners class is for. A few things worth knowing before your first week. First, you don't need to be fit or coordinated to start — you get in shape by training, not before it, and coaches scale every drill to you. Second, you won't be thrown into hard sparring — reputable gyms build the basics (stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads and bags) first, and any contact eases in gradually under a coach's control. Third, all fitness levels really are welcome — ask about a dedicated beginners or fundamentals class time so your first session is alongside others who are also starting out. Most gyms are happy to let you watch or try a class first, so reach out before you commit.
Your first kickboxing class at AMMA Fitness
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
