From the reviews
SD/FC has a welcoming fun family vibe. The coaches are high level instructors who are easily accessible. The training partners are passionate about getting better and protecting their partners. The facilities are new and kept very clean. There’s tons of parking.
When I first stumbled upon the San Diego Fight Club, I was a shell of the person I used to be. Lost in a fog of depression and anxiety, I felt like I was drowning in a world that had long since forgotten my name.
Came in not knowing anything about Jui Jitsu except for watching fights on TV, but Nick Oliver gave me an introductory class, was super patient with all my questions, and walked me through basic etiquette, positions, and terminology which helped me feel more comfortable and confidence.
I’ve been going to SDFC for over 10 years now, I’ve recently started taking my younger siblings too. Charlie Kohler is a fantastic coach who has led many fighters to victory. I know first hand what a great school SDFC is and how much it has to offer.
Your first kickboxing class at San Diego Fight Club
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
