From the reviews
I’ve attended Deep Water Jiu Jitsu , Muay Thai and Judo for about four years, and the environment is structured but not overbearing, with an emphasis on traditional self-defense-based Jiu-Jitsu. This academy, in my experience, respects all creeds and beliefs.
This academy changed my life. I am a small woman with little strength but because of the incredible tutelage of the 3 black-belts and other amazing coaches, I have gained skill and confidence beyond anything I could have ever imagined. Not only is Brazilian jiujitsu offered but kickboxing and soon, judo as well.
I am no spring chicken but at the age of 49, I thought why not try? This gym has been there for every second of my last 4 years and supports everyone no matter where they are in their journey. I can not say enough about the coaches, the students or the overall feelings I get each and every time I attend class.
I've been training with these professors for a couple years inconsistenly due to military obligations. Since this year 2025 I've been consistent with training. I've learned much and have much to learn. I'm open with my professors about my life with military obligations, family events, and other responsibilites.
Your first kickboxing class at Deep Water Brazilian Jiujitsu, Muay Thai, Judo
Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
