From the reviews

Yamane is a great instructor who holds many of his own medals and trophies for his disciplines. He is very thorough and knowledgeable. The atmosphere among the instructors and students/training partners is very good. There is a strong work ethic amongst everyone here.

★★★★★ — Joshua, Jan 2019

My son has been training with this program for the last year and loves it! The instructors are friendly and care for the kids as well as providing individual instruction. This is a safe environment for kids to learn respect, become more disciplined and of course learn various martial arts.

★★★★★ — Mary, Mar 2020

Awesome gym that makes you feel like family! My 3-year old joined the kids class here & she’s having a ball. Coach Tyler, Coach Edie & Coach Robbie have exhibited so much patience & kindness with her. My husband & I are even considering rolling soon! I can’t say enough good things about this gym.

★★★★★ — Jillian, Feb 2025

Fitness classes are excellent. Coach is very qualified and creative, which makes the classes always dynamic and challenging. Location is great, which allows the classes to be fully adapted to the routine of a mother who needs to meet the demands of her children.

New to kickboxing? Start at Championship MMA & Fitness

Championship MMA & Fitness comes up as a beginner-friendly gym — noted on their own site. If you've never thrown a punch or a kick, that's exactly who a good beginners class is for. A few things worth knowing before your first week. First, you don't need to be fit or coordinated to start — you get in shape by training, not before it, and coaches scale every drill to you. Second, you won't be thrown into hard sparring — reputable gyms build the basics (stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads and bags) first, and any contact eases in gradually under a coach's control. Third, all fitness levels really are welcome — ask about a dedicated beginners or fundamentals class time so your first session is alongside others who are also starting out. Most gyms are happy to let you watch or try a class first, so reach out before you commit.

Your first kickboxing class at Championship MMA & Fitness

Nervous about walking into a kickboxing gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics — stance, footwork, and punches and kicks on pads or a heavy bag — not hard sparring. Go at your own pace and rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: comfortable athletic clothes you can move and sweat in, and supportive trainers. What to bring: water, and hand wraps and gloves if you have them — many gyms lend loaner gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves and wraps (and shin guards once you start sparring). Sparring is optional and eases in gradually, once your basics are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.

Kickboxing is a contact sport. Warm up, pace yourself, listen to your coaches, and if you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them before class and check with a doctor if you're unsure.
